Back, Ike Was A Bitch!

By Jason | Sep 17, 2008

I moved back to Houston 3 days before Hurricane Ike hit and I have to tell you, it was one hell of a storm! I live right off the water near Seabrook and Kemah and it was hit the hardest. We just now got power and internet back but the area is still 30/70 on available power and water.

It is actually like medieval days out there… food and fuel shortages, contaminated water and darkness half the time with no A/C. It is really aweful! I am thinking of going back to the mountains and just live there. None of this dual home crap.

I have a lot of work to do here in Houston but I should be getting back to a normal posting schedule here soon.

I take it, it was your first one. Here, in Florida it’s a normal thing. Really sucked when we didn’t have power for a month. Cold showers doesn’t feel good at all.

Na, not my first one. I have lived (off and on via military) in Houston, TX since I was a kid so this isn’t my first one. Florida is pretty much used to it and setup for it, we just don’t get them that much and were caught off guard, kind of like Katrina did to New Orleans.

I spend most of my towns in our house in Cloudcroft, NM… worse thing there is snow. I have gotten used to it up there.

Yeah it really bites… I used to live in Izmir, Turkey and never had bad weather… I kind of miss it.

    Hi Jason

Mother Nature can get rather bitchy when she’s feeling cranky, can’t she?

Glad you’re ok. That’s the most important thing (as I’m sure you know) ‘cos there are most likely people in a less fortunate position when the weather flips.

    take care…

There really is more to Kemah than bad storms! The worst thing about IKE was that the Crab House closed.. and (I live in Houston) we were out of power for two weeks. Glad to hear you are ok.

I was in Houston during Ike too. Wow, what a mess. I didnt have water for a week. It was sooo hot. We had to dip the water out of the pool. Makes for interesting memories now though. I have since moved to east texas and hopefully out of harm’s way for hurricanes.
